Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 10, 2026
1. Who we are
Sniffrr ("Sniffrr," "we," "us," or "our") provides a location-based service that helps dog owners discover nearby dogs, match, chat, and coordinate safe in-person meetups. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use our websites, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the Service, we may collect:
- Account and authentication data. When you sign up or sign in, we collect identifiers and profile basics associated with your account. If you choose Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple, we receive information from those providers as permitted by your settings and their terms (for example, a stable account identifier, and in some cases your name or email, depending on what you authorize). If you sign in with email (for example, magic link or password-based email authentication, if offered), we process your email address and related authentication events.
- Session and security data. We use industry-standard mechanisms to keep you signed in and protect the Service. That may include JSON Web Tokens (JWTs) or similar session tokens issued to your device or browser, plus technical metadata needed to validate sessions and reduce fraud and abuse.
- Profile and content you provide. Information you add to human and dog profiles (such as photos, bios, breed, age, temperament tags, preferences, and messages you send in chat), plus optional verification or safety-related materials if you choose to submit them.
- Location information. The Service is built around discovering people and dogs nearby. With your permission, we collect and use precise or approximate location from your device (for example, GPS or network-based location) to power discovery, distance, safety prompts, and related features. We aim to collect and retain location only where needed to provide these features and as described in this policy.
- Usage and device data. We collect technical and usage information such as device type, operating system, app version, IP address, diagnostics, and in-app activity (for example, feature usage and crash reports) to operate and improve the Service and to secure our systems.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics (and similar tools we may add with notice) to understand aggregate traffic, product usage, and campaign performance. These tools may use cookies, pixels, or device identifiers and may collect information such as pages or screens viewed and general location derived from IP. Where required, we will seek appropriate consent before non-essential analytics cookies or similar technologies are used.
- Communications. If you contact us, we keep your message and contact details so we can respond.
- Payments (if you purchase a paid feature). Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers. We receive limited transaction and subscription information needed to fulfill your purchase, not your full payment card details.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Create and secure your account and sessions;
- Provide core features: profiles, discovery, matching, chat, and meetup-related tools;
- Personalize your experience and improve our algorithms (for example, distance and compatibility scoring and, where applicable, feedback after meetups);
- Send service-related notices, safety information, and (where allowed) marketing or product updates;
- Detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, fraud, and violations of our terms or community guidelines, including moderation and reports;
- Comply with law and enforce our legal rights; and
- Analyze usage in aggregate to improve the Service.
4. Legal bases (EEA, UK, and similar regions)
Where GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on one or more of: performance of a contract with you; our legitimate interests (for example, securing the Service, improving features, and preventing abuse) where not overridden by your rights; your consent (for example, optional analytics or marketing, or certain location or notification permissions); and legal obligations.
Our corporate entity is registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in its capacity as a data controller. You can check the ICO's public register of fee payers at ico.org.uk/esdwebpages/search.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Other users, according to your profile visibility, matching, and chat settings (for example, profile fields and messages you choose to share in-app).
- Authentication providers, such as Google and Apple, as needed to complete sign-in.
- Analytics providers, including Google, subject to their terms and your choices where applicable.
- Service providers, who host data, send email, moderate content, process payments, or help us operate the Service, under contractual safeguards.
- Authorities or others if we believe disclosure is required by law, to protect safety, or to enforce our policies.
- Business transfers such as a merger or acquisition, with notice where required.
For more on Google's use of data when you use Google services on our sites or apps, see Google's policy on partner sites.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We and our partners use cookies, local storage, pixels, and similar technologies for essential operation (for example, keeping you logged in with JWT-based or related sessions), preferences, analytics (including Google Analytics), and security. You can control some cookies through your browser or device settings; blocking certain cookies may limit functionality.
7. Retention
We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Location logs and analytics may be retained in shorter or aggregated form where possible. You may request deletion as described below, subject to legal exceptions.
8. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Session mechanisms such as JWTs must be protected on your device; you should keep your device and account secure and sign out on shared devices where appropriate.
9. International transfers
We may process information in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for transfers from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent where processing is consent-based; and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including to know, delete, and opt out of certain sharing (we do not sell personal information as defined by those laws). You can control location sharing and notifications in your device or app settings where available.
To exercise privacy rights, contact us using the details in Section 13. We may need to verify your request before responding.
11. Children
The Service is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version and change the effective date above. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as required by law (for example, in-app notice or email).
